Just increased some values in the firefx.dat increasing burn time for some things like petrol wood carpet etc

dramatically increased burn times for bushes, leaves, grass paper hay and petrol increased ignition strengths slightly
Feel free to play around with the values to your liking

don't forget to backup UPDATE.rpf if dragging and dropping the file doesn't work use the + icon in OpenIV and make sure you enabled admin edit mode!
Open UPDATE.RPF in the GTA V update folder using OpenIV
drop this in the /common/data/effects/
close archive.

@lexo1000 anything you put in the update archive will overide the main gta archives so yes don't worry if it dosn't exsist :-)

Dont you mean the firefx.dat in the COMMON.RPF?
This mod is awesome! Can we also edit it so maybe the fire lasts forever or until you go somewhere else?
I will probably add Forest fires later or even building fires one I understand the engine a little better :-)
Any file that rockstar decides to change or alter will go in the directories inside of the update.rpf
Crappy installation instructions doesn't work and no such file exists you cant even add it

OMG its so simple guys. the update.rpf is like extentions. think of it as a place where dlc and patches go. if you put a file in the update.rpf file, it will be read instead of the ORIGINAL file. so if you wanted to modify a texture, you can just put it in the update.rpf file instead of modifying the original. its so simple. just put the firefx.dat in the file and it will work. under the directory you are told to. done. wow.

4. open effects folder
drop firefx.dat in the effects folder
close archive.

What is the max value I can the time and str?
When editing what value determines what? I set everything to 4000 and it didn't seem to be much different than default.

how can we make fire less damaging per second to people, when they are on fire? I want to make people burn longer, instead of dying in 3 seconds
